what do you do with a BA in English?

Put off writing your synthesis paper on “The Master and Margarita” and “One Hundred Years of Solitude” with the following:

– Check Facebook.  Update status five times.  Read everyone else’s.

– Catch up with an old friend.

– Try to read the Sparknotes for one of the books, but fail miserably — as other things are more important, like texting.  And thinking about dinner plans.

– Stare at the Shiba Inu puppy cam for what probably is too much time.

– Make a new playlist for iTunes using their Genius function.  Base it off of “Melt My Heart to Stone” by Adele.

– Begin reading commentary on a story you submitted last week.  Put it down.

– Wonder whether you have a headache from being cold, not eating, or simply reading too much.

– Say “Bulgakov” (the author of one of the aforementioned novels) out loud because it sounds fun and then begin to sing it.  Decide you are crazy.

– Consider rearranging the furniture in your room but then decide against it because it’s too cold to move.

– Get up and turn the heat on.

– Look at the clock and realize you have to leave in twenty minutes for class.  Eff.

  1. Stay in your pajamas all day on a Thursday. And I mean at least until the sun has set.

  2. Uh-hum. I’m thinking that several members of the Reactions To Realism class would like to hear the Bulgakov song at the next session.
