Let’s Discuss The L Word!

Like I said, this episode looked more promising than the first. And if I recall correctly, that is how last season started, as well. The second episode was eons better than the first. So, without further adieu, let’s discuss!

How does everyone feel about the production of Les Girls within the actual plot? I usually am not a fan of television-within-television, but I’m totally obsessed with the moving around of ideas and the supposed production. And the fact that it’s a movie that is based on real life makes it less obnoxious and more funny.

Also funny: “MORE SEX!” written on the front page of the script. If I had a dollar for every time a misogynistic pig man wrote that on one of my stories, I would forgo trying to get someone else to publish my work and do it myself.

Shane is put in a position to do the hair of three very attractive girls and then their mother says, “I’m going to need you to do me when you’re finished with them.” That’s something that should never be said to Shane. Just throwin’ that out there… And, of course, as anyone could have guessed, she slept with one of them. Or was that two? It might have been all three and the mother, I’m not quite sure… But the scene with the mother was sort of reminiscent of American Pie and Stiffler’s mother. Pretty much exactly that scene. Anyway, way to keep it in the family, Shane.

TOTALLY LOVING Jodi’s translator secretly hitting on Max. I actually wish that was more played out than it was.

I know this is sort of shitty, but I’m really glad that they are starting to turn the military against Tasha. Later in the episode, I love how awkward the double date was with Jodi/Bette and Alice/Tasha. Actually, it was sort of really painful to watch. The PDA thing was sort of getting obnoxious anyway. I know it’s LA and all (and I was subject to that sort of stuff in public with the LAX (ha, ha, LA-ex), but it’s still uncomfortable.)

I spent the entire episode trying to figure out who Adele, the girl that was reading Jenny’s book was, or where I knew her from. It turns out – she went to UCF, hey my alma mater, hey! Okay, that was just her character, but the actress was actually Malaya Rivera Drew. She must’ve looked familiar from random episodes of Entourage, though I thought she sort of looked like April from season 3 of America’s Next Top Model. “Because she loves Disney World” is a wonderful reason to go to school in Orlando, funny funny Jenny.

This weeks’ lesson, learned c/o Helena Peabody: PRISON IS SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Showering in prison is scary!!!!!!! Though you have to wonder, do women just… do it… in the prison cells like that? It’s not exactly behind closed doors. Prison bars, hmmm…

Second lesson learned, c/o Bette Porter: “With lesbians, you have to break up more than once.” BAHAHAHA.

What was with Jodi’s hair? Someone ought to write a letter to the stylist of the show and inform her that crimped hair was best left in the 80’s with Jennifer Beals’ Flash Dance sweatshirt.

The episode ends with Shane in a get-away car. I feel like a get-away car should be used more in relationships, in general. Next week’s episode looks amazing. Shane becoming celibate? Is that possible? DISCUSS!

  1. “do women just… do it… in the prison cells like that?”

No idea, but it was definitely my favorite part…
However, I must note that the sounds chickie was making for her “bad dream” were much louder than those that helena was making.

Also…in my opinion-sex in prison with a murderer = hot, sex with someone who evaded taxes = not as hot.

you have to break up more than once.

    so terribly true.

Oh…and last…I noticed jodi’s lovely hair as well and pointed out the amazing crimp action to my friends.

–I lied – one more thing… It’s interesting realizing our(at least in my group) attachments to the characters as we see them hooking up with other people when they “act out” the possible script rewrites.

  2. at summer camp once, i was roomed with a girl that sounded like that in her sleep. every. single. night. they weren’t nightmare noises, that’s for sure.

i loved the possible script rewrites, totally my favorite part… ugh, i need a group to watch with. it’s on my agenda.

  3. well, 2 thumbs up to you b/c those were my exact thoughts.

that whole thing with shane though and the family, was totally predictable, i called it scene to scene. I didnt think that they were necessary scenes to have, i kinda just thought they were fill ins, till saw the preview for next week. SO it was excusable to me.

Next the jail bitches. haha. I’m like Kit, I’ve “been around” not really but, I know. They exaggerate how girls are a lot, well maybe prison might be like that, I know for sure they don’t actually have knives, they have “shanks” which is a knife that is made out of something, like razor blades. Secondly, girls do “do it” in jail/prison, but they get caught. There are guards walking in circles 24/7. And the shower scene, again, its not like that. Prison is scary, but if you were really Helena, you would not be sleeping with you roommate in jail. lol

Jodi’s hair, haha, Bette and her look so awkward anyways, and thank god Tina gets some next week

Lastly, JENNY IS A BITCH. I just want to slap that hoe. =)

Good blog I highly agree with everything.
Did you watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles? if your into that. It was also good.
    Oh and American Gladiators? lol

  4. I tried watching American Gladiators, but it just wasn’t as great as the old school 80’s show. Plus, it was on at the same time as “Dance Wars” and that was way more entertaining.

Did you read the comment I made about Paris Hilton and Jenny a few posts back? They’re like, becoming one person.

  5. i thought it was interesting that shane sleeps with every bridal participant EXCEPT the bride. maybe i’m just being philosophical. but it was so predictable. and the quote from the mother? come on! soft core porn has better dialogue.

i thought the prison scenes were hilarious. HOWEVER, i would have gladly given almost anything that own for more towels on those nasty, obese, flabby women.

i had more to say but i’m tired and not feeling well. i suppose this is my last comment as i don’t get showtime. :(

  6. In response to Stephanie – I completely agree Bette and Jodi look awkward. For me, I believe, it’s mostly because I know they are both best friends in “real life” (I hate saying reality now because the word ‘reality’ has become an adjective to describe horrible television – not a noun) and their kids play together etc… It makes me picture sex scenes like that with my very platonic best friends and I get a little queasy inside.

Bette’s quite attractive to me, though, so I definitely didn’t mind seeing her hook up with other people on that couch in the possible rewrites. I wonder if that was as fun for them to act as it was for us to watch ha…

Also. American Gladiators – hilarious. I knew it wasn’t going to be like the amazing 80’s version (I even had the sweet toys) so I guess that’s why it wasn’t so bad for me. I also knew it was going to be horribly cheezy and that’s why it has become entertaining for me. I enjoyed watching the woman slam into a metal pole so hard her head started coloring her face red with blood. I mean…I mean, I guess the pole was discreet and all as it was ON FIRE?! – I also enjoyed the woman who so enthusiastically exclaimed before beginning the rings over the pool event- “My mom told me to MAKE SURE I get her soaking wet! (referring to the other female gladiator)” …next they promptly switched to a shot of the mother with a priceless “I can’t believe she just said that” look on her face. Perhaps I never aged past the age of 12, or perhaps some of the female gladiators bring sex to the front of my mind…whatever it is – that moment made that evening’s episode worth watching.
